DISASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"While grief is fresh, every attempt to divert only irritates. You must wait till it be digested, and then amusement will dissipate the remains of it."
Samuel Johnson

This is the temporary home of LuLu's Bay.

Here is what happened:

Disrupted sleeping patterns for the past two months have led me to sitting at my computer around the 4am mark. On this particular morning, I decided to do a little 'house-clean', a general tidy up of the computer. There was an old Blog that belonged to a business I once owned.

"I will get rid of this!" I thought to myself -- so I hit the SIGN IN button at the top of the screen and went directly to SETTINGS page. Scrolled down... hit DELETE and then YES.

Suddenly, in front of my eyes, were the words YOU HAVE NO BLOGS. Whattttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!

It took a few minutes to sink in.... NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But it was true. I had just deleted 2 years and over 250 posts with the flick of a finger.

A frantic search gave me a screen to request a restoration of said blog. Would this work? Would there actually be a real person that would care enough to grab my blog out of the server trash can and pop it back?

After an hour, I crawled back into bed.... "Are you OK?", asked Mr Dear Husband.......

This resulted in another hour of great gulping, heaving, snotty filled, salty tears.... I cried like a two year old that had dropped her ice cream in the dirt. Mr Dear Husband was bewildered.

Too his credit, he got up and spent the next couple of hours searching for people on the web that had been through this experience, he then created a document to hand to me that gave evidence that people DO get their blogs back --- sometimes --and ALMOST good as new. That is love, coming from someone that still, after 20 years, cannot grasp the concept of how to attach a document to an email.

I am bereft. There is no way to explain this to non-bloggers. This blog has been a work of passion and creativity, and in so many ways, my savior. This blog, started during turbulent times, has helped to keep me sane.

Now I miss the comments - I didn't realize how much they helped get me through the days - Hey! perhaps I need to go to a celebrity Rehab for comment addiction?

I haven't even tried to recreate - although I have saved all the cached pages I could find. So this is it... fingers crossed that someone, somewhere will read my email and give me back LuLu, please?

If you have any words of wisdom (or would like to send condolences.. money, alcohol or chocolate will do) I am here : lulusbay@gmail.com

Sooo many sayings are popping into my head, you know the type, those that give you kick when ya don't really want it!
In all seriousness it is sad BUT maybe, just maybe it is a a good sign, a letting go, a clean slate for all the good yummy stuff a comin' your way.
Thinking of you sweetie, as always! Ux

I'm confident that the lovely people at blogger can get your blog back. Positive thoughts. Trust me if the tables were turned and i had deleted my blog you'd be able to hear my screams all the way from my end of Cairo to yours. I understand. **hugs**

And being addicted to comments is not a crime or even a vaguely bad thing. Its validation of your creativity and hard work. It's the unexpected pick-me-up after a long day. **hugs**

They'll bring it back. I believe. :) *****chocolate*****

I believe that you will get it back as well. It's just a holiday week so they are slow getting back. Breathe deeply!

Oh, I am so sorry!! I was just having a panic attack a few weeks ago when a friend did the same thing. I'm sorry I don't have any words of advice! I love comments, too! Hang in there! **hugs N love**

NIGHTMARE! Was wondering what happened when I got a screen full of Arabic! Didn't hear the screaming or the sobs from 3 streets away so you're reputation is still in tack!

I had visions of all sorts of ghoulish jiggery - pokey having occurred, given some recent events over the past few weeks or slightly more that made it onto your blog. Never did occur to me it was self inflicted. All large organisations back up the servers at least daily.....there is hope! No one wishes instant self destruction. There is a good new start, however!

Oh no!!!
I love Your blog - sometimes I read it for reflection, sometimes for fun and sometimes there is a source of turist information for me. Hope that admin of Blogger.com will help. I have copy of two of your posts. I know there is a little, but maybe there is a sign that You will recapture the whole blog. I cross my fingers! Ania

I wondered where on earth you were when it told me your blog didnt exist anymore!
I thought that the censorship thing had started in Egypt. So glad that it was 'only' a wrong click of a button - only only only.... I am SURE that there is a way for you to get it back! I certianly hope so! Goodluck!!

I wondered! Sooooo glad it was a mistake and not a permanent thing! Would've missed ya.

4 AM? Do what I do. Drink coffee and gaze. Don't think. Don't do. Gaze. Nothing bad happens when you gaze. In fact, nothing happens ~ a fact I love.

Bugger - I just posted a comment and it got deleted! I can't believe you've lost your blog. Not quite sure what to say. I thought quite hard and the only offering, other than a glass of cool white, or make that a bottle, would be a fresh jar of vegemite - I mean, what else do you offer an Aussie who doesn't eat chocolate..hmm apart from her blog back I guess!

Miss Kim said...

Ah damn.

So the two of us have been crying all day.... me over my stolen dog... and you over your lost blog. I honestly understand. (((Hugs)))

OMG one of my biggest fears.

I know how you feel. I once deleted a four-day trial I had proofread (in a previous life as a courtreporter). I will never ever forget that feeling in my stomach... I got it back, and then got to do it again...

I've always worried about this happening to me, since I do hit the wrong button occasionally (like "publish" when I just want to "save".) I've heard of this and of people getting their blog back. Actually, (I hate to say this) but, I was worried something more serious happened to you, so this sets my mind to ease.

Good to see you back. I'm crossing my fingers for you to get back your blog archives.

BTW, I always get an e-mail from my blog, which I keep, when I've published a new blog. Perhaps you have some archives there, or saved at your e-mail address online? Just a thought.

I know I don't know you and I have never been here before---but my heart aches for you. Oh, poor you. Huge hugs. Do what every you need to do until you hear from Blogger. I am so sorry and I am so happy you have husband who can help you.

I have nothing helpful to say but I am so very sorry.

Lynda, words will perhaps not be enough, but just count the number of comments with words of consolation and well-wishes. Every blogger will understand exactly the emotions you are going through. Surely they must have some sort of backup? All I can do is give you a big virtual (((hug))).

I looked for you the other day and I couldn't find you. I even posted a tweet on twitter to see if anyone knew where you had gone.

How terrible for you. It feels like a huge loss doesn't it. Hope you are able to recover everything!

Nooooooooooo! I would be upset too. Somewhere, somehow I think I have also read that Blogger can help you to get it back.

oreneta said...

I have no idea how to help you restore it, but...if you get a wordpress blog, they have a fabulous slurp feature...so you can slurp an entire blog, comments photos and all, and it is automatic...a back up. I have this and now I think I will go and do it again. Also BLURB is an on-line company that lets you do make a book from your blog...you download some software, do some layout work (sounds easy, I suspect it consumes a LOT of time) then they print it, you buy as many copies as you'd like.

I can't imagine losing the whole blog.

Gawd. I am sorry.

Start again, even if you don't get it back. Good writers don't come along often. I look forward to reading your future posts.

hell, I figured somehow you were arrested for subversive activity in the code words. I thought perhaps the blog was shut down by the government. Perhaps that you were kidnapped. I thought all that . Maybe you had a subconscious desire to start over? Oh well. Glad to know you are not detained by the government.

You express yourself so well in your writing. I am also sorry for your pain and hope that you can take comfort in your writing and that we have all been there as well. Take care of yourself.

OMG I can't believe that happened, I don't know if there can be a silver lining to it but maybe you could look at it like a breath of fresh air? errr no I guess that wouldn't be making you feel any better....I just hope you get it back somehow, I hadn't even got around to reading back that far either

hi..
i read about ur diasterous experience and i really feel for u.. i had this painful experience once in my life, losing a couple of years work just by a click of a button.. i personally think they shouldn't make this an option at all.. anything older than 1 year should be un-erasable.. anyway, i hope you get ur blog back..

what u would do then is find a way to have a copy of ur blog.. and there r several ways to do that.. here they r:
1.Type this in ur browser.. http://blogname.blogspot.com/search?max-results=N

u need to replace the 'blogname' with urs of course.. the 'N' would be the number of posts in ur blog (u can get that on ur Dashboard).. this will simply display all ur posts in just one page which u can save..

2. u can use this application to keep an offline http copy of whatever site you like (http://www.httrack.com)

3. or maybe u can go ahead and use this blogger backup utility (http://www.codeplex.com/bloggerbackup)

u can drop me a line if u need any assistence..

cheer up :)

Oh no! I'm so sorry about the loss of those entries! The first time I accidentally deleted a blog was when I lived in Germany. I managed to delete all of my entries from my last two years of high school and six months of my study abroad experience. Hang in there! You may not get it back, but at least it is a clean slate for you to remember old and new memories.

Hey
Just visited your blog for the first time (I saw that you were a "follower" of mine...thanks:), and I added you to my bloglines, and there, I was able to see all your previous posts (back to April 2008)...Now I know that's not 2 and a half years of posts, but it's better than nothing...

So if you add yourself to Bloglines, you can still have access to all your old posts...Not sure how that works but it does!

Hope this helps a little bit :) And I hope you enjoyed Dubai!
